Cookies on the Wagtail.org website

Cookies are small text files of information automatically downloaded by your computer or mobile phone when you visit our website. These files are stored in your web browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer) and requested by our website when you visit us again.

Our website uses the following types of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website.

  • Performance cookies. These allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our website when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our website works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily.

Which cookies do we use?

Here is a list of the first-party cookies stored on your device by browsing our site. Take a look at what data they collect and why.

  • Cloudflare (_cfduid)
    Strictly necessary cookie.

Our website runs on a service called Cloudflare. The _cfduid cookie is necessary for the operation of Cloudflare’s security features, which include detecting and blocking malicious website visitors. The cookie itself is used to collect anonymised IP addresses, and is stored on your browser for 1 month.
  • Google Analytics (_ga, _gid, _gat_UA-112981-50, _gat_UA-112981-56)
    Performance cookie.

Google Analytics cookies help us collect information on which page you arrive at, how you navigate between pages and the device you used. We use this information to make improvements to the experience of individual pages and the journey through the site as a whole. For example, by ensuring you are finding what you are looking for easily.

The _ga and _gid cookies are used to distinguish unique users. They store randomly generated numbers for 2 years (_ga) and 24 hours (_gid) that are used to identify your device when you return to the website. The _gat cookies are used to throttle requests to Google Analytics - they only exist for 1 minute.
