Wagtail is participating in the 2021 Google Summer of Code, under the Django umbrella.

Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open-source software development. Students work with an open-source organization on a 10 week programming project, during their break from school.

We have some project ideas and are open to your ideas, suggestions, and interests. Feel free to propose your project idea!
Students are welcome to seek advice from mentors on suitable projects and topics, which should then be submitted to the project issue list with our Google Summer of Code issue template.
Wagtail core team members are available to mentor students. We'd like to collaborate with you to make Wagtail even better. Students are welcome to seek advice from mentors on suitable projects and topics.
- have a basic familiarity with Python, Django, and Git
- complete the Wagtail Tutorial
- create a development environment for working on Wagtail itself
- join the Wagtail Slack and introduce themselves on the #gsoc channel
From March 29 to April 13, 2021 students can register and submit their applications via https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/. If you'd like to work on Wagtail, you need to choose Django as the mentor organization. If you'd like to get started on your proposal early, you might want to read the Django Google Summer of Code page for tips and examples.
